These case studies are for illustration purposes only and not based on real individuals. They are not designed to provide financial advice, nor are they intended to make any recommendations regarding the suitability of our plans for a particular individual.

Renu graduated from Sheffield last year, and joined us on the Foundation protection plan in her final year after hearing about a friend having to drop out of their degree after being involved in a rugby accident. She joined a small mixed practice in Wythenshawe. Her Foundation protection plan now covers her earnings and she pays a discounted premium of £3.50 a month.

Tom was just over two years into his training at a London school when he was advised by one of his lecturers to take out income protection as he is a keen team sportsperson. He took out our Foundation protection plan and was paying £3.50 a month. Last season he had a nasty tackle while playing rugby which damaged the tendons and ligaments in his hand and wrist. After surgery and further complications he was devastated to learn that his injuries were too severe to continue a dental career and he had to drop out of his degree. We paid him £45,000 to help him clear his outstanding financial commitments and plan an alternate career.

Sam works in a large practice in Maidstone. His course director recommended he joined us as he is a keen triathlete. He was out on a training ride in London with a few teammates from the triathlon club when he got knocked off his bike. His pay stopped after one month and we paid £1,750 a month for the next two months as he recovered from a broken pelvis.

Helen is a dental student in Manchester. She has lots of colleagues in the dental school who she has seen have to take time off for injuries. So she signed up for our Foundation protection plan in her final year as she is worried about anything happening to her as she has a small child and taken on a lot of debt to fund her studies. She pays £3.50 a month for this cover and could get £45,000 if an illness or injury permanently stopped her from completing her education and start working.

We are owned by our members. This means that your interest always come first and never more so than when you need to make a claim. Our claims process is simple and easy. Once you have completed your claim form, simply ask your doctor to complete the confidential medical certificate at the back and then return your fully completed claim form to us along with the evidence of your income, if you are claiming after the end of your education. If you need help our claims team is only a phone call away.

As a member, in addition to your cover, we support you with access to information and guidance from relevant, reputable third parties to help in your practising and personal life. Whether it’s advice on posture and back care, offers for ergonomic equipment, complimentary preventive care, exercise classes and techniques or reduced prices for lectures, we want to support your health and wellbeing throughout your membership.

We regularly produce publications, with valuable third party offers, information, news and articles. For more information about our exclusive member benefits, please see our member benefits page.

We want you to be happy with your plan and our service, but sometimes we may not live up to the standards we set ourselves. If that happens, please let us know and we will work hard to resolve the situation as quickly as possible. If you are still not satisfied with how we have dealt with things then you can go through our formal complaints process.

If you have a complaint, we will acknowledge it in writing within five working days of receiving it. We aim to resolve all complaints within four weeks, however sometimes this can take longer. If this happens, we will write to you to explain the reason for the delay and provide an indication of when you can expect our decision, along with details of the options available to you.

If you are not satisfied with our final response, you can choose to either refer the matter to our panel of independent arbitrators or the Financial Ombudsman Service
